Our second house
Same seed, new soil
The settlement of Río Nima, in the foothills of the Western Cordillera in Valle del Cauca, received families displaced by violence from the Colombian Pacific, especially from Chocó, about 20 years ago. Today those children and their families still need support to break the cycle of poverty and school dropout.
Their children grow up in an environment of poverty and institutional neglect. The main risk is not urban violence but school dropout: children who leave the classroom at 10 or 11 to work in the fields, losing the only ladder they have.
Six years ago we arrived in Río Nima with the same methodology we have refined in Bogotá over more than 25 years: daily nutrition, academic support and comprehensive care. Casa Río Nima is here to break that cycle.

How do we support the children?
Nutrition program
A nutritious lunch for every child, every day. Because without this minimum, everything else is impossible.
School support and tutoring
Personalized school support and tutoring to prevent dropout —the greatest risk in Río Nima—, helping every child stay in school despite the pressure to work in the fields.
Music and arts
Workshops in music, singing, painting and dance as a path for expression, healing and discovering talents.
Annual camp
In October, during the school break week, a team of teachers travels from Bogota to hold the Rio Nima children's camp: lessons, sports, recreation, campfire, river trips, arts and music. A unique strategy of growth, interaction and love that the children look forward to every year.
