Our journey

A seed planted in difficult soil

The first encounter

In February 1996, a group of young people from a local church made their first visit to Barrio Egipto. What they saw left them speechless: children alone in alleyways, families without food, a community the rest of the city had chosen to ignore. In that moment, they felt God calling them to act.

They came without resources or a detailed plan — but with a faith they couldn't shake: this couldn't stay this way. They came back the following week. And the week after that. For six years straight — driven not by a strategy, but by the conviction that serving the most vulnerable is answering the call of the Gospel.

The House opens its doors

Six years after that first encounter, what already existed in practice was made official: we opened Casa Buena Semilla — a place where faith became action. A real kitchen, a real space where neighborhood children could come to eat, study and be truly heard.

What started with one pot, fifty children and the certainty that God's hand was in it, quickly became the backbone of a community. Soon the workshops, the garden, the housing project and the reintegration program for men leaving prison all joined in.

Today

A network that keeps growing

More than 25 years on, Fundación Buena Semilla runs two Houses — in Bogotá and Palmira — with seven active programs, and has walked alongside thousands of families on their path toward a dignified life. This work of faith keeps growing because God keeps being faithful.

But the same conviction that drove us on day one still powers everything we do: that every person deserves dignity, love and a real chance to rewrite their story — and that genuine transformation always begins from within the community, and from the hearts of those who choose to serve.

A team driven by more than a job

The General Director of the Foundation has spent years walking alongside the families of Barrio Egipto, building real opportunities with vision, commitment, and conviction. His leadership drives each of the Foundation's social transformation programs.

She is joined by a team of teachers, facilitators and coordinators who share that same conviction. Many have been with the institution for years.

Every year we welcome more than ten national and international volunteers who bring new skills, fresh perspectives and energy. The team wouldn't be the same without them.

Be part of the story

Every donation, sponsor and volunteer is part of a story we're still writing together.
